The Centre for Economic and Financial Research at New Economic School (CEFIR/NES)

The Centre for Economic and Financial Research at New Economic School is an applied economics and policy research branch of the New Economic School, which is a graduate school in economics in Moscow founded in 1992. NES is together with CUNI the best economics program in the former European communist countries. NES was ranked 30th out of 1236 economics departments and research centres worldwide by SSRN in January 2013.

CEFIR/NES actively utilizes in international cooperation its large network of alumni and other Russian economists based at leading world universities. CEFIR/NES’s international research cooperation projects include projects supported by the World Bank, the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development, the Swedish International Development Agency, USAID, the International Finance Corporation, the United Nations Development Programme and EU FP7. In environmental economics CEFIR/NES leads the international consortium established in order to create and develop a spatial-economic-ecological model for the assessment of sustainability policies of the Russian Federation (SUST-RUS) financed by FP7 (http://sust-rus.org/en/). Another environmental international program is a BalticSurvey subproject within BalticSTERN research network.
